SOFIA VERGARA’S EX COMPARES EMBRYOS TO ‘SLAVES’April 11, 2018
Nick Loeb moved to Louisiana and gave the lawsuit a third shot. This time, he is comparing the embryos to slaves. Court documents show Loeb outlined the legal definition of slavery and then went on to say:
“Under these simple definitions a human embryo, if believed to be a human being and alive, (which is our contention) would be considered a slave and the parents would be the owners of the slave, particularly in states where they are considered property.”
Fasten your seatbelt, there’s more. He compared the situation to Solomon Northrup’s story that was depicted in the movie 12 Years A Slave, where he was born a free man in New York and later sold and abducted into slavery.
Nick tried to explain the comparison:
“The reference to slave cases is to demonstrate the jurisdictional and legal issues arising from this stark difference in how human beings are categorised. In modern day, frozen human embryo disputes and the question of how they are categorised (human being or property) has become more frequent. Since there is little or no legislation in most states on this issue, state courts are left to decide if embryos are human beings or property or something in between and what to do in cases of dispute.”
Nick and Sofia dated for two years and split in 2014. During their time together, they had signed a contract after creating the embryos in 2013 that neither of them could use them without consent from the other party.
Sofia Vergara has been married to Joe Manganiello since 2015.
