Sherri Shepherd Dishes On Abandoned Surrogate Baby DramaJanuary 19, 2016
Sherri Shepherd has been at the center of controversy after splitting from her husband, Lamar Sally, and then declaring she wanted nothing to do with their baby boy that was born to a surrogate just shortly after their divorce.
Sherri popped into our Atlanta studio to talk about all the projects she’s been tackling since leaving her post as a View co-host…and Gary couldn’t help but get the tea at the end of the interview.
“Everything is great. Since I’ve left The View I’ve done three movies, I’ve done Cinderella on Broadway and I’ve done a couple of sitcoms,” she said.
“And I’m on Rosewood with Morris Chestnut! I play the medical examiner. I’ll be on there starting in May. I don’t know why they keep making black people the medical examiners on TV, like we know more about death?” she joked.
Sherri will also be co-hosting the Stellar Awards on Feb. 20 in Las Vegas with our very own Rickey Smiley!
“My final question if this is not too personal, how’s the baby?” Gary asked, hoping she would open up about Lamar Jr.
The former View co-host avoided addressing it by saying, “Jeffrey is 10-years-old and he’s doing very well, thank you. I love him so much. I love being a mom.
“Out of respect for Lamar’s son, I don’t talk about him [in public] because it’s his son and I do respect him a lot. So there you go.”
Court documents state that while still together, Sherri and Lamar paid close to $100,000 to have a baby via a surrogate carrier.
But after their split, the 48-year-old petitioned to have her name removed from the child’s birth certificate so she could avoid paying child support — which at the moment is $4,100 per month, but will jump to $4,600 when he turns 13.
The petition was denied and Sherri is now appealing a Pennsylvania court ruling stating she is financially responsible for the child, even though Lamar has custody.
