PRINCE HARRY & MEGHAN MARKLE ARE ENGAGED — SEE THE RING!November 27, 2017
“His Royal Highness and Ms. Markle became engaged in London earlier this month,” Clarence House said in a statement. “Prince Harry has informed Her Majesty The Queen and other close members of his family. Prince Harry has also sought and received the blessing of Ms. Markle’s parents.”
In addition, the couple are set to have their royal wedding in the spring of 2018. It will follow seven years after Harry’s older brother Prince William‘s wedding to Kate Middleton in April 2011.
The last time an heir to the British throne was set to wed an American was when King Edward VIII abdicated the throne to marry socialite Wallis Simpson in 1937.
Prince Harry is currently fifth in line in succession to the throne, behind his father, Prince Charles, his brother, Prince William, and William’s children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
As for the bling on Markle’s hand, it’s a three-stone diamond engagement ring that Harry designed himself. For added sentimentality, two of the stones belonged to Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana.
Markle, who is biracial, was born in Los Angeles and graduated from Northwestern University in 2003.
On top of being an American actress, Markle is three years older than her fiancé and was previously married to actor/producer Trevor Engelson.
Prior to the engagement news, it was reported that Markle would not return for the 8th season of her USA show Suits.
Prince Harry and Meghan will make their home in Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace.
