J.LO STILL HASN’T HEARD FROM HER FAMILY IN PUERTO RICO AFTER HURRICANE MARIASeptember 22, 2017
Puerto Rico has been ravaged by the effects of Hurricane Irma and Maria, as 100% of the country is without power.
While celebrities are stepping in to help with the rebuilding efforts, some are also having difficulty locating loved ones on the island.
Jennifer Lopez – who was born in the Bronx but is of Puerto Rican descent – reached out to her 69 million followers to encourage them to donate if they can and also revealed she has not heard from her family members in Puerto Rico.
“What’s on my mind is what’s going on in Puerto Rico. The devastation is beyond belief,” the 48-year-old said in an Instagram video. “Me and my cousin still haven’t been able to hear from our families over there.”
“What’s foremost on my mind and many others is trying to figure out the best way to help,” she added. “Today, Puerto Rico needs our help. I urge you to support and donate to the efforts of the First Lady of Puerto Rico, Beatriz Areizaga. Together we can help rebuild our island, and the Caribbean.”
Lopez isn’t the only celebrity doing their part to help Puerto Rico as Ricky Martin, Marc Anthony, Daddy Yankee and Rosie Perez have all taken to social media to encourage people to contribute to relief efforts.
On Wednesday, Category 4 storm Hurricane Maria hit the island. At least 13 people have been confirmed dead by officials.
“This is total devastation,” Carlos Mercader, a spokesman for Puerto Rico’s governor, told CNN. “Puerto Rico, in terms of the infrastructure, will not be the same… This is something of historic proportions.”
