J.LO & MARC ANTHONY UNITE ON STAR-STUDDED SONG FOR PUERTO RICO

October 6, 2017

Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda has assembled some of the biggest Latin artists of the world on a charity single to benefit hurricane relief for Puerto Rico.

Leading the way on the song and video for “Almost Like Praying” are Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, Gloria Estefan, Luis Fonsi, Camila Cabello, Rita Moreno and Fat Joe.

The song is inspired by “Maria” from West Side Story, which was also the name of the devastating Hurricane that destroyed the island last month.

“The name ‘Maria’ forever has a negative connotation for this island,” Miranda told USA Today. “It’s the worst storm in 100 years. It’s also the name of my favorite song from West Side Story. I kept thinking about that song, so I took a sample from the song Maria, to flip it. To literally flip the sample the same way we’re trying to flip the natural disaster into something positive.”

The song also names all 78 towns that were ravaged by Hurricane Maria.

Other artists appearing on the track include John Leguizamo, Ruben Blades, Jane the Virgin star Gina Rodriguez and Juan Luis Guerra.

Ricky Martin and Daddy Yankee were asked to be on it, but were already involved with relief efforts on the island and couldn’t contribute in time.

All proceeds from “Almost Like Praying” go to the Hispanic Federation’s disaster relief fund.

The song is available for purchase and on streaming services such as Spotify, iTunes, Tidal and others.
