HERE’S HOW YOU CAN LIVE IN BOTH THE U.S. & CANADA … AT THE SAME TIMEJuly 4, 2017
There’s a house for sale that sits right smack in the middle of the border between the United States and Canada. Security!
Brian and Joan DuMoulin are selling their 7000 square foot home that is partly in Vermont and partly in Quebec.
They’re asking $109K for the house, but it needs at least $600K in renovations. Pricey in any country!
Now the place does come with other drawbacks, like being watched 24 hours a day by both US and Canadian border patrols. The intense surveillance is a direct result of the 9/11 attacks and the renewed interest in keeping borders tight.
Residential streets that used to be open were blocked by gates. The back doors of an apartment building straddling the border in Derby Line village have been locked shut. The street next to the Haskell Free Library and Opera House, deliberately built in both countries, is blocked by flower pots, although Canadians are still allowed to walk to the library’s U.S. entrance without going through a border post.
The house has entrances from both nations and the owners have had to make sure one remains locked at all times.
So if you don’t mind going through a check point to get to your backyard, then maybe this land is your land!
