Accomplished writer, producer, and stand-up comic Harris Wittels was found dead in his Los Angeles home on Thursday of a possible drug overdose.

Wittels’ body was found by his assistant who then called LAPD. He was pronounced dead on the scene, although cause of death will not be determined until an autopsy has been performed.

Wittels had been a writer on the award-winning sitcom Parks and Recreation since 2009 and a producer since 2011.

He also worked as a writer on The Sarah Silverman Program for Comedy Central. Wittels often went on tour with the likes of Sarah Silverman and Louis C.K., performing stand up comedy himself and even appeared on the late night talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Wittels was also a published author. In 2012 he wrote a book titled Humblebrag: The Art of False Modesty that was based on his hilarious @Humblebrag Twitter account.

At an event in Beverly Hills on Thursday night, Parks and Recreation star Amy Poehler made a touching statement about her friend and colleague, having just found out the news herself.

“So, here’s my daily life – today, I lost a friend. I lost a dear, young man in my life who was struggling with addiction and died. Just a few hours before we came,” she said. Jane [Aronson] and I sat and talked about it. I’m sharing it with you because life and death live so close together and we walk that fine line every day and at the end of the day when things happen in our lives, we turn to people that we love, and we look to our family and our community for support, and we lean on people in a hope that they will ease our pain.”

Others also took to Twitter to pay their respects to a very talented man.
