EXCLUSIVE: CHRIS HANSEN’S ONE TIP FOR KEEPING YOUR KID SAFE FROM PREDATORSSeptember 8, 2017
After years of exposing child predators & other would-be criminals on shows like To Catch a Predator and Crime Watch Daily, Chris Hansen is sharing his sage advice for keeping your young ones safe to Dish Nation.
Hansen sat down with our Chuey Martinez – after jokingly busting Chuey for a having a predilection for … cupcakes! – and revealed how much harder it’s gotten to track down predators in the social media age.
“When we first started doing those investigations we had decoys in chat rooms on AOL and Yahoo,” Hansen recounted. “Today there’s Badoo, Kik, Whisper, and on and on and on.”
If those platforms don’t sound familiar to you, you’re not the only one.
“I have to talk to my kids and younger staff members to figure out what’s new, what’s happening,” the former Dateline NBC host said of staying on top of the technology.
To keep kids safe, Hansen used to advise parents to limit the time their children are on computers, but with the ubiquitous use of cell phones, he’s had to alter his main tip.
“So what I say is, up to a certain age, after a certain time of night, phones should be on the family charging station in the kitchen and not on the nightstand.”
That one rule, Hansen says, will “eliminate 75% of the trouble right there.” The more you know!
But a man can’t live by busting criminals alone and in his downtime, Hansen told us he leads a “pretty regular life” and enjoys bonding with his two sons and fishing. He’s also an avid tennis player and admits, “I’m alright for a man of a certain age.”
He’s being modest because after catching over 320 predators throughout his career, Chris Hansen definitely has major game!
Watch more of Hansen’s skills when the third season of Crime Watch Daily premieres Monday, September 11th.
