The birthday tribute is mine!

Brandy got into a social media war of words with her “The Boy Is Mine” duet partner Monica over paying tribute to Whitney Houston, on what would have been her 54th birthday.

It all started innocently enough as Monica shared an endearing photo of Whitney with the caption:

“Happy Heavenly Birthday Nippy … You still inspire many & touch hearts daily… You will forever be the greatest …. You will forever be missed.”

Brandy then proceeded to share not one but FOUR posts where she honored the late singer.

The first one was a collage of nine pics of Brandy with Whitney, who co-starred in the 1997 remake of Cinderella together.

“Lord have mercy on my soul!!!,” Brandy captioned the homage. “Happy Born Day Whitney. You live on in me… I can feel your Spirit inside of me and all around me. My angel, my friend, my fairy God Mother. I love you forever… thank you for trusting me with the torch!!! I remember every moment with you and I and I will cherish these miraculous moments forever and ever! I love you…. 8/9-2/11.”

Fans on social media took outrage as they thought Brandy was making it all about her and some even alleging she was trying to outdue Monica.

Brandy wasn’t having the accusations and actually clapped back by commenting:

“Monica needs to really check her evil ass fans.” Okay!

But she wan’t done reading the haters to filth and continued:

“It’s so much stuff I can post about hateful things they say to me … but I will never have time for that. Always thinking something is about her. It’s not!!!! Me and Whitney have nothing to do with anyone but the two of us … we made history and I cared more about being with her than I did with anything else.”

Wanting to get the final word, Brandy asked Monica to “come get [her] hating ass pigeons and put them in their place the way [I] did for her when the starz was out of place.”

For the record, Monica has seemingly taken the high road and not commented on any of this haterade.

Despite both winning Grammys for their 1998 duet, the rivalry between Monica and Brandy has been ongoing for nearly twenty years and appears to be as strong as ever.
