Anjelah Johnson, the genius comedian who gave life to Bon Qui Qui, stopped by the Dish Nation studio to discuss her new comedy special Mahalo and Goodnight. Johnson explains that she likes to portray her relationship with her family because that’s what helps her connect with her audience.
“I talk about my life, and I share my life with people… So whether is my relationship with my mom. or my siblings or my husband, I like to connect with people.”
She also went on to reveal that most of the times she doesn’t run the jokes by her family, but that years ago she had to change one about her dad due to a nasty incident with a fan.
“I use to talk a lot about my dad and how cheap he is. And after a show… this woman in line behind him says ‘oh you’re the cheapskate!”
The 35-year-old comedian quickly rose to fame thanks to her famous nail salon skit that went viral back in 2007; forever changing her life and career. In just one day, the video had around 4 million views and opened many doors for her including MADtv, where she created the famous and eternal Bon Qui Qui.
