An exhibit dedicated to Oprah will be opening at the National African American Museum this Friday, June 8th. The D.C. museum is calling the exhibit “Watching Oprah: The Oprah Winfrey Show and American Culture” and will feature interviews, clips, and personal belongings. This includes showcasing The Oprah Winfrey Show and her book club.

Lonnie G. Bunch III, the museum’s director noted:

“What’s interesting is the same way America thought about Walter Cronkite — you could trust Walter Cronkite and his opinion — they trust Oprah. An African-American woman becomes the person American turns to.We made sure there was a bright line, that this was done by the museum and museum scholars. The fundraising was not through Oprah’s people.”

The museum opened in September 2016, and Oprah remains to be the museum’s largest benefactor with donations adding up to $21 million.
